Last week, a team from Innobella Media had the privilege of travelling to the stunning landscapes of North Wales at Plas y Brenin – the National Outdoor Centre, where we spent the day livestreaming the Trash Free Trails – State of our Trails Summit 2023. This conference not only showcased the tireless efforts of an organization dedicated to preserving our outdoor trails but also pushed the boundaries of our technical prowess in video production and livestreaming.

Trash Free Trails, a Community Interest Company, stands as a beacon of environmental responsibility. Its mission is to safeguard our outdoor trails from the scourge of litter (which – as they rightly point out – would be better described as Single Use Pollution), which all too often mars the pristine beauty of our natural spaces. Their work is a testament to the belief that every small act of conservation counts, and it’s an honour to have been a part of their summit.

The full-day event was broadcast as a livestream on YouTube. This allowed us to share every presentation and workshop from the main hall with a global audience. It also offered an opportunity for people who couldn’t physically attend the event to immerse themselves in the discussions and engage with the community through live chat comments.

Our technical production setup for this event included a multicamera setup to capture every angle, ensuring that the online audience had a front-row seat to all the sessions and with crystal-clear audio.

On top of the multicamera setup inside was our wireless, roving camera kit for use outdoors and deep into the surrounding forest. During a special hour-long outdoor session, this equipment allowed us to venture into the heart of the wilderness, capturing the essence of Trash Free Trails’ mission in real-time. As we navigated through the forest, our camera beamed the footage to a temporary receiver set up just outside the centre and fed back to inside via a fibre optic cable.

This intricate setup ensured that the viewers never missed a moment of the action, even when we ventured off the beaten path.

The livestreaming component of the Trash Free Trails Summit was a game-changer for the event. It allowed individuals from across the world, who may have been unable to attend in person, to participate actively. This also cuts down on costs for those who would have to travel a long distance to attend, not to mention the reduction in carbon emissions by choosing to watch a live stream instead of travelling. The live chat comments served as a virtual bridge, connecting those watching remotely with the on-site attendees. This interactive element brought people together in a shared mission to protect our trails from litter and pollution.

In an era where environmental concerns are at the forefront of global discussions, Trash Free Trails’ mission resonates deeply with people from all walks of life. The livestream allowed viewers to not only witness the summit’s proceedings but also to voice their thoughts, questions, and support in real-time.

In conclusion, the Trash Free Trails – State of our Trails Summit 2023 was a remarkable event that showcased the beauty of North Wales and the importance of preserving our outdoor trails. Our role as a video production company was not only to document but also to enable participation from a global audience. The technical challenges we overcame, from multicamera operation to outdoor broadcasting, were a testament to our dedication to delivering the best possible livestreaming experience.

We are immensely proud to have played a part in bringing Trash Free Trails’ mission to a wider audience. Together, we can protect our outdoor trails from litter and ensure that these wild places remain pristine for generations to come. The livestreaming of the summit was a technological triumph, demonstrating the incredible impact that video production and livestreaming can have in advancing important causes.
